Astroscale France are seeking a talented Ground Segment Engineer to efficiently participate in the whole ground segment development process, from conceptual design to operation and maintenance.

This position gives you the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the Ground Segment, as well as participating in operational activities in the Astroscale France missions when the spacecraft is in orbit.

The Ground Segment engineer plays a key role in the existing Ground Segment team, with a high level of responsibility and autonomy.

Responsibilities

Participate in the specification, design and development of Ground Segment sub-systems including Mission Control System, Mission Planning System and Flight Dynamics System:

  • Derive requirements for the Ground Segment in general and for specific components.
  • Interface with the external suppliers’ teams, acting as a Specification and Verification Engineer or Technical Officer and provide support to the Ground Segment team during the ground segment design, development, integration and verification phases.
  • Produce and maintain project documentation to good standard including requirements, design, verification and validation plan, etc.
  • Perform integration & validation of the systems with other team members while ensuring requirements are met, including systems tests and simulation campaigns.
  • Test spacecraft and ground station simulators as part of a team of software and aerospace engineers.
  • Interface with the Systems team and provide support on the ground systems

Experience and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • University degree in Aerospace, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or other relevant engineering discipline.
  • Industry experience in satellite ground systems (for example mission control system, mission planning system) engineering.
  • Good knowledge of CCSDS / ECSS standards.
  • Overall knowledge of the main components of a ground segment and how they interact between them.
  • Essential team player as well as proactive.
  • Excellent communication skills (required to interface with different cultures/nationalities)
  • Good reporting skills (for documentation, keeping track of changes, etc)
  • Overall understanding/knowledge of space mission design/development and standard milestones.
  • Knowledge of Requirements Engineering.
  • Experience with integration, verification and validation of ground segment
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Be eligible and registered to work within Europe.
  • Be eligible and gain security clearance in France.
