Position Summary
The Environmental Test Manager is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of environmental testing, with a primary focus on vibration and thermal vacuum (TVAC) testing of aerospace hardware. This role ensures that all test campaigns are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with program requirements and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead planning, execution, and reporting of environmental test campaigns including vibration, thermal cycling, and thermal vacuum.
  • Manage a team of test engineers and technicians, providing mentorship, training, and performance feedback.
  • Develop and maintain test procedures, schedules, and resource plans.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, test standards (e.g., MIL-STD-1540, NASA GEVS), and customer requirements.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of environmental test facilities and equipment (e.g., shaker tables, TVAC chambers).
  • Collaborate with systems engineering, quality, and program management to define test requirements and resolve anomalies.
  • Analyze test data and prepare detailed technical reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement in test processes, documentation, and facility capabilities

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience in environmental testing, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Hands-on experience with vibration and thermal vacuum testing of aerospace or defense hardware.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental test standards and instrumentation (accelerometers, thermocouples, DAQs).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance (if required).

Certifications

  • Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) – Validates broad expertise in environmental regulations, testing standards, and management.
  • TTI Environmental Engineering Specialist Certificate – Focuses on environmental test procedures including vibration, shock, and thermal vacuum.
  • ISO 17025 Familiarity or Lab Accreditation – Essential for overseeing competent testing and calibration laboratories.
  • MIL-STD and NASA Standards Training – Knowledge of MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1540, and NASA-STD-7002B is critical.
  • ITAR Compliance Training – Required for roles involving defense-related hardware.

Optional but Valuable Certifications

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) – For managing complex test campaigns.
  • Six Sigma or Lean Certification – For process improvement and quality assurance.
  • LabVIEW or DAQ System Certification – For managing instrumentation and data acquisition.
