Senior Corporate & Commercial Lawyer

Location: Commutable distance to Winchester / London (Hybrid Working Model)

We are seeking a qualified Senior Legal Advisor to join our dynamic team. As the key legal contact for Corporate matters and additional support on Commercial matters across our Media & Broadcast and Smart Utilities businesses, you will provide expert legal advice and support on corporate governance and strategic projects as well as on commercial contracts, and customer and supplier relationships. Your role will involve advising on strategy and risk analysis to offer timely, pragmatic, and commercial legal advice. You will also be involved in supporting the transformation of how the legal function engages with business teams including considering use of new legal processes and technologies.

The role

  • Support the Chief Legal Officer and Company Secretary on delivering modern and effective corporate governance and company secretarial services across the group of companies. This will include liaising with Board members and shareholders as well as engaging with and advising on corporate structures.
  • Support the CLO and Company Secretary and the Director of Risk Management & Internal Audit on corporate compliance and risk management to identify and mitigate legal risks in operational initiatives.
  • Provide advice and support on regulatory matters including compliance with relevant undertakings and consultation responses.
  • Support other members of the Legal team as needed to provide legal advice and support to the Commercial teams. This includes providing legal advice and support on product development, commercial contracts and customer and supplier relationships.
  • Support on legal operations and transformation across the group which will entail working closely with other functions such as Commercial and Procurement as well as assessing new legal technologies. This will include contributing to precedent and process improvement, training, knowhow and development initiatives within the business.
  • Establish strong and effective working relationships both internally and externally. The role includes liaising and collaborating with colleagues from across all areas of the business including Commercial, Procurement, Finance, Risk, Technology, Information Security & Operations.
  • Manage external lawyers on a variety of matters.

The person

  • Eligible to work as a lawyer in England and Wales
  • 5+ years PQE (PQE is given as a guide but candidates with commensurate experience will be welcomed)
  • Experience of corporate, regulatory and governance work.
  • Experience in technology, telecommunications and/or procurement/supply chain contracting will be a significant advantage
  • An understanding of and curiosity about new technologies
  • Excellent communication, legal drafting and negotiating skills
  • Track record of providing business, commercial and solution focused advice
  • Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams
  • Enthusiasm for innovation
