Engineering Manager – Radio Transmission
Location: We operate a flexible, hybrid working environment with the candidate required to travel to either our Winchester or London office twice a week.

Role Purpose
Provides leadership for the Radio Transmission engineering team, ensuring the successful delivery of Broadcast Radio transmission projects while balancing technical leadership with people management responsibilities. You will directly support 50 million people every week who love listening to Radio.
Accountabilities
• Deliver outcomes for Radio customers through overseeing execution of critical tasks, on time, within the Radio Delivery Squad.
• Provision of second and third line specialist Radio support within the ITIL framework and management oversight to ensure service responses and key measures are met.
• Manage a team of Radio Transmission engineers, providing coaching, mentoring, and support to develop their technical skills and career progression.
• Lead the day-to-day operations of the Radio Transmission team, ensuring effective response to incidents and alignment with service level agreements.
• Manage resourcing, tools and capabilities required to implement and optimise Broadcast Transmission systems, including the installation of new equipment.
• Manage the proactive maintenance and resolution of complex technical issues with Radio Transmission systems, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
• Manage comprehensive testing and validation processes to meet the highest performance and quality standards.
• Monitor team performance against key metrics/KPIs, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions where necessary.
• Collaborate with other managers and senior leaders to ensure that Radio Transmission services align with strategic business objectives.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the team, fostering a culture of learning and innovation in Radio Transmission.
• Manage relationships with external partners and vendors, ensuring the timely delivery and integration of Radio Transmission equipment.
• Ensure team compliance with industry regulations and internal standards, providing guidance on technical and regulatory issues as needed.
• Prepare regular reports on team activities and performance, presenting findings to senior leadership and stakeholders.
• Provide and coordinate Radio Transmission training and development for the team and wider Engineering teams where relevant.
• Manage the performance and availability of Radio Transmission assets across all regions, ensuring effective asset lifecycle management, including maintenance, upgrades, and total
cost of ownership.
• Manage operational and capital expenditure, ensuring budget adherence, cost efficiency, and maximising returns on investments in assets and tools.
• Ensure Safety first culture is embedded in the team; promote health and environment standards and policies and encourage vigilance in near miss reporting.
• Stay informed on innovative industry trends and technologies.
• Manage self & task: role model Arqiva’s culture goals with the team, building respect and credibility; set a high-performance bar and challenge the team to deliver sustainable results, by developing the skills and capabilities of the team and focusing on outcomes.
• Manage relationships & communications: connect, collaborate & lead communication transparently, balancing face to face and virtual, with own team and teams across the business to encourage cross-functional understanding, agreement and knowledge sharing.
Skills
• Broadcast Transmission - Knowledge of broadcast transmission systems and principles e.g. signal flow/modulation, compression techniques, satellite transmission, amplification, radio communications
• Transmission Engineering - Proficiency in transmission engineering principles, design and analysis
• Transmission Systems - Knowledge of transmission systems, equipment and technologies e.g. antennae, satellite systems.
• Communication skills - collaborate with cross-functional teams, present technical info and provide training or support
• Analytical and technical problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues
Knowledge & Experience
• Substantial experience in broadcast, transmission or related engineering fields.
• Knowledge of industry standards, regulations and best practices for broadcast transmission.
• Proven ability to manage and develop high-performing teams.

Qualifications: A degree (or equivalent experience) in Electrical
Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field is advantageous.
• Project management - ability to manage one or multiple projects or project tasks and meet deadlines
• Project planning - ability to create project schedules, allocate resources, define milestones and track progress
• Budget management - ability to effectively manage project and team budgets.
• Relationship management - ability to foster relationships (and network) with external vendors, suppliers, industry peers, etc.
• Leadership and Management - management proficiency in influencing, analysis, decision making, empathy, communications, and adaptability
• Risk Management & QA – Ability to identify and mitigate potential risks, and implement quality control processes
