Spacecraft represent the most pressing unmet need across the entire aerospace industry. As more launch vehicles come online and the cost to orbit decreases, more companies launching payloads to space continue to emerge.

For the first time in history, this influx of payload companies combined with reduced launch costs has resulted in a massive increase in need for commercial spacecraft platforms, known as satellite buses. These buses hold the payloads of our customers and are flown on launch vehicles.

Apex manufactures these satellite buses at scale using a combination of software, vertical integration, and hardware that is designed for manufacturing. Our spacecraft enable the future of society: ranging from earth observation to communications and more.

About the Role

Vice President of Finance – Head of Finance & Strategy

Mission-Critical Leadership for the New Space Economy

As Apex’s top financial leader, you’ll wield finance as a competitive weapon to scale humanity’s space infrastructure. You will be a true business partner, owning end-to-end financial strategy and execution – from factory-floor COGS optimization to interplanetary capital markets.

Strategic Accountability

  1. Capital Markets

  • Lead long-term capital planning for $200M+ manufacturing scaling.

  • CEO/Board Reporting: Advise on financial strategy and capital allocation

  1. Operational Rigor

  • Drive gross margin optimization through vertical integration analytics (inventory, production, COGS)

  • Partner with CEO/CTO on high-stakes decisions: factory automation, international expansion, and acquisitions.

  1. Financial Architecture

  • Design scalable FP&A, treasury, IR, and risk management frameworks for rapid expansion

  • Develop investor messaging for space manufacturing economics (launch costs, payload margins).

Finance Operations

  1. Factory Finance Mastery ​

  • Optimize COGS through BOM/labor analytics, automation ROI, and learning curve modeling. ​

  • Build 3-statement models integrating R&D burn, production scaling, and launch cadence ​

  1. Team Building ​

  • Recruit and develop a world-class finance org (accounting, FP&A, IR, procurement) ​

  • Mentor accounting/FP&A teams in aerospace operational finance ​

  1. System Scalability ​

  • Design and deploy FP&A and space manufacturing ERP for real-time P&L control. ​

  • Build supply chain shock/launch delay risk models to protect runway. ​

Requirements

  • 8+ years in relevant Finance roles with success in Finance leadership (Director and above) in $100M+ electronic hardware manufacturing environment (Space Industry a plus). ​

  • Leadership DNA: Zero-ego operator, thrives in ambiguity, builds systems from scratch. ​

  • Proven track record in: ​

  • Startup $50M+ Series X investment round. ​

  • Scaling complex hardware ops (inventory turns, gross margin optimization). ​

  • Mastery of Factory Economics (scrap rates/labor efficiency/inventory turns) ​

  • Technical fluency: Can partner with engineers on design-to-cost tradeoffs ​

  • U.S. Person status required ​
