Supervisor: Supervisor (Mold)/Assistant Molding Manager

Class: Indirect

The following are tasks to be performed by the Process Engineer. The duties are not limited to this list. Any additional requirements, changes, or deletions will be at the discretion of the Supervisor (Mold)/Assistant Molding Manager. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility and duty satisfactorily.

SUMMARY: The Process Engineer is responsible for new product start up and development of robust, repeatable processes, troubleshooting existing molding processes and secondary processes; documentation of corrective actions regarding finished parts and process optimization activities; and adhering to Altek’s core values, policies, and safety standards while fostering a positive, collaborative work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identifies opportunities in processes to improve part quality and minimize waste
  • Responds to and documents corrective action requests on time and ensure the proper follow up to ensure that the root cause has been identified and the problem corrected
  • Monitors Job performance and report BOM modifications as needed
  • Provides technical assistance and training to Production floor
  • Monitors key jobs as identified by RMAs, Customer concerns, and Job Cost Variance discrepancies
  • Documents improved processes
  • Oversees new product development
  • Performs new material evaluations
  • Reviews, evaluates, and integrates new processing technologies and automation
  • Performs DOE’s and Window studies
  • Creates forms for tracking various activities for data collection
  • Troubleshoots production runs to achieve quality parts, minimizes scrap, and seeks help, when necessary, especially for significant startup scrap
  • Ensures product inspection meets quality standards, validates with inspector, and ensures proper documentation is completed
  • Adheres to Altek’s Vision, Core Values and Quality Policy, to ensure quality to customers, internal and external
  • Proactively maintains established company policies and manufacturing strategies
  • Builds and maintains positive rapport with other Altek employees, customers and/or suppliers
  • Adapts and modifies as circumstances warrant

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 10 years’ experience in plastic injection molding processing
  • Knowledge, practice and application of Decoupled Molding Techniques; mold construction; safe molding practices; 5s; One-Piece Flow; mechanical equipment used in plastics manufacturing; and gas assist molding
  • Literacy in ERP system
  • Intermediate computer, reading, verbal, math and written skills
  • Excellent documentation skills
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills
  • Knowledgeable in material types, machine operations, and proper processing methods
  • Competent in the use of calipers, micrometer, pin gauges, various hand tools, CNC routers and ultrasonic welders
  • Ability to communicate and behave effectively with others in a team environment
  • Maintain a high level of quality output
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to provide team support and assistance to co-workers as needed
  • Forklift certified
