CNC Programmer/Lead

The following are tasks to be performed by the CNC Programmer/Lead. The duties are not limited to this list. Any additional requirements, changes, or deletions will be at the discretion of the Assistant Molding Manager. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility and duty satisfactorily.
SUMMARY: The CNC Programmer/Lead is responsible for following prescribed standards of Vertical CNC Milling operations, set-ups, fixture design and fabrication; demonstrating knowledge and application of lean manufacturing; promoting teamwork; coaching, training and development of staff; acting in accordance with Altek's Policies; and adhering to goals and expectations as defined by management.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Gathers and analyzes input from Engineering and Production related to fixturing and/or work holding needs and manufacturing process intentions
- Designs and fabricates fixtures for optimal fabrication, material, labor and machine utilization costs (Vertical CNC milling, CAD/CAM, 3D printing, ultrasonic welding, etc.) that are effectively tested and proven to be robust
- Modifies fixtures and/or work-holding devices until they meet Production and Engineering requirements, meet ease-of-use requirements and are repeatable
- Follows prescribed standards of Vertical CNC Milling operations, programing, edits and set-ups of established processes
- Takes an active role in effectively developing Standard Work Instructions (SWIs), optimally utilizing the fixtures and/or work-holding devices
- Troubleshoots processes, programs, equipment and tooling and takes corrective action on process improvement
- Executes planned schedule and provides pertinent feedback to Supervisor to ensure available labor and customer demands are balanced (level load) and staff utilization (job on %) is optimal
- Addresses BOM inaccuracies with Supervisor
- Monitors 2nd Ops production facility and personnel, developing skillsets, ensuring BOM PPH and Yields are meeting or exceeding standard
- Monitors performance progress of direct reports related to qualitative PDP factors, provides prompt, honest feedback in a coaching/team building capacity, provides praise and recognition to those that demonstrate improvement and adaptability in collaboration with Supervisor to develop the greatest potential in the individual and the team
- Proactively shares information pertaining to changes, support needed, successes and challenges in all areas of responsibility
- In collaboration with supervisor, creates objectives, plans and schedules; executes training then monitors performance and follows up until training objectives are achieved
- Proactively maintains established company policies and manufacturing strategies
- Builds and maintains positive rapport with other Altek employees, customers and/or suppliers
- Adapts and modifies as circumstances warrant

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in design and construction of production fixturing or equivalent
- Experience with CAD/CAM, SolidWorks, and GibbsCam software
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Proven leadership skills
- Strong blueprint reading skills
- Knowledgeable of and skilled with portable measuring devices used in the production processes at Altek
- Working knowledge of GD&T, calculations and mathematical formulas needed to calculate dimensions
- Quality-conscious attitude and pride of ownership in designated responsibilities
- Must have a reasonably complete set of personal tools to perform set-ups
