Telecom Project Manager
AirWorks
AirWorks mission is to build the future of mapping to allow better decision-making for our world and the built environment. AirWorks’ AI-powered platform creates automated maps from geospatial data, addressing a $100B pain point for the Built industry. AirWorks spun out of MIT in the summer of 2018 and plans for its technology to be the base-layer of geospatial analytics for any industry. AirWorks has raised over $20M in funding from excellent investors such as MetaProp, Innospark and Creative Ventures and as well as angel investors such as Frederic Kerrest (OKTA), and Keith Masback (US (United States) Army, NGA). AirWorks has established itself as the leader in automated mapping and is already deployed with over 75 customers worldwide, some of which are the largest civil engineering companies. We are growing by 4x and are looking for a GIS Engineer to advance our offering and increase the adoption of AirWorks technology in the Telecommunications, Utilities, and Government analytics industries.
We're looking for a Telecom Project Manager to lead complex geospatial initiatives that support large-scale telecom and utility infrastructure projects. You’ll sit at the intersection of cutting-edge GIS technology, fiber network engineering, and high-stakes project execution. This isn’t just a PM role — it's about guiding technical delivery, collaborating closely with both clients and internal engineering teams, and making sure GIS is a strategic driver, not just a support tool.
If you’ve got a solid GIS foundation, project leadership chops, and a passion for transforming infrastructure with data-driven design — we want to talk.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Own project scoping and planning in collaboration with Sales, Engineering, and key customers — defining geospatial scope, data needs, and technical deliverables from the outset.
- Lead the delivery of large-scale GIS projects tied to fiber network design, utility infrastructure, and permitting.
- Serve as primary point of contact for customers and stakeholders, facilitating clear communication, solution alignment, and weekly status checkpoints.
- Manage and coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams, including CAD and GIS Engineers, customers, and data collection vendors
- Translate field data, drone imagery, CAD drawings, and engineering redlines into actionable GIS products that feed design and permitting workflows.
- Implement project controls and QA processes to ensure data accuracy, adherence to standards, and timely delivery.
- Track budgets, schedules, and milestones, and ensure smooth handoff from project deployment to long-term operations support.
- Guide formal acceptance of deliverables, drive contract close-out, and ensure customer satisfaction through every stage.
- Develop and maintain internal documentation, project schedules, and performance reports for executive stakeholders.
- Mentor GIS and project staff, promoting best practices, collaboration, and technical excellence across teams.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of experience managing geospatial projects in telecommunications, utilities, or AEC industries — especially involving OSP (outside plant) fiber or infrastructure planning.
- 5+ years of hands-on GIS experience using Esri tools (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Enterprise) — with working knowledge of spatial analysis, topology, and data QA/QC workflows.
- Comfortable working in Agile software/project environments; experience with Jira, Confluence, or similar platforms.
- Proven track record of managing cross-functional teams and external stakeholders across complex, multi-phase projects.
- Strong working knowledge of project management tools and techniques (MS Project, Smartsheet, etc.) and ability to manage timelines, deliverables, and budgets.
- Exceptional communication skills — written, verbal, and visual — and an ability to explain technical content to both engineers and execs.
- Experience with project financials, scope control, and risk mitigation.
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related technical field (A master's degree is a plus).
