Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Field Service Technician III to lead and support the deployment, maintenance, and optimization of our systems at customer sites. In this role, you will play an essential part in ensuring system reliability, customer satisfaction, and operational success.

The Field Service Technician III will be responsible for the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of various systems at customer locations. Reporting to the Senior Field Service Manager, the candidate will work closely with customers, providing technical expertise, ensuring system functionality, and delivering outstanding customer support. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in troubleshooting, repairing, and sustaining mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment under challenging conditions. This position requires proactive problem solving, strong technical expertise, and the ability to work independently in high-pressure environments.

The successful candidate will demonstrate adaptability across varied operational settings, ensuring rapid issue resolution, improved system performance, risk reduction, and strong customer relationships. While the role is primarily focused on field sustainment, AV operates a diverse portfolio of technologies, and the selected candidate may assist with multiple systems, initiatives, and stakeholders to ensure flexible, mission-ready support across AV's operational footprint. Expect primary/daily work in AV's Germantown, MD facility with monthly travel to various CONUS locations.

Position Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems in various CONUS locations.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues quickly to maintain operational readiness and minimize downtime.
  • Provide on-site training, mentorship, and certification support to customer and partner personnel.
  • Maintain accurate service records, technical reports, and logs, and capture lessons learned for continuous improvement.
  • Follow safety procedures and checklists to ensure personal, team, and customer safety.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with clients, providing updates, addressing concerns, and ensuring satisfaction.
  • Manage spare parts, tools, and logistics to maintain operational readiness.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to provide feedback and recommend system performance improvements.
  • Work closely with the Senior Field Service Manager to coordinate advanced field service activities and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
  • Support additional AV systems, programs, and customer requirements as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications or an associate degree in electronics, IT, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of technical systems, with at least 2 years focused on systems in the security or defense industry.
  • Demonstrated experience as a field service representative/technician or in a similar role, with primary CONUS work and the ability to travel OCONUS if needed.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems, with the ability to troubleshoot and repair complex equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and adjust to rapidly changing schedules, conditions, and mission requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Relevant technical certifications or degrees are preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies

  • Prior military service or defense contractor experience supporting fielded systems.
  • Experience working in the defense or critical infrastructure sectors.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations for electronic security systems.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and tools for RF systems.
  • Experience with IP networking and basic Linux system operation.
  • Experience leading or supervising technical or operational teams.
  • Experience developing or supervising training, certification, or quality-assurance programs.


Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to frequently use hand tools (e.g. clamps) using light, minimal force
  • Regularly required to sit for long periods and occasionally stand for short periods
  • Frequently lift and/or carry objects of small size between 2lbs and 10lbs
  • Frequently required to use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and balance
  • Occasionally required to walk
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

  • We can only accept applicants that are US Citizens.
  • An active (or active within the last 2 years) Secret or higher level of DoD security clearance is desired but not required. Must be willing and able to obtain a security clearance if needed.

The salary range for this role is:

$29 - $40
