Summary

The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist I works with other specialists in conducting tests and measuring hazards to help prevent harm to workers, property, the environment and the general public. In this role, one inspects work areas and equipment to ensure compliance with company, state, and federal safety policies and regulations.

Position Responsibilities

  • Applies EHS concepts and tools to the work environment in order to reduce and eliminate risks and maintain compliance with EHS regulations
  • Participates in EHS Teams, taking on leadership responsibilities during meetings and committee
  • Promotes awareness activities, educational and guidance to workers to prevent accidents and illnesses through continuous campaigns
  • Responsible for incident investigations and root causes determination as well as to assist in corrective action implementation. Works with the Safety Management System to ensure timely reporting and closure of tasks
  • Assists with data trending and analysis, perform risk assessments and provide training to employees as needed. Performs EHS inspections at the sites, and track corrective action & preventive action findings to closure
  • Identifies, implements, trains, and tracks the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when all possibilities of risk elimination have been applied
  • Test the workplace for environmental hazards such as exposure to chemical, dust hazards, and excessive noise
  • Contribute to the development and execution of an EHS management system in support of the site's ISO14001 certificate.
  • Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Safety Sciences or related technical degree is required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Minimum of 2 - 5 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with California regulations and agencies (Cal OSHA, CUPA, CA Fire Code, etc.)
  • Experienced in and proficient with MS Office (MS Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and other office productivity tools
  • Must have a valid Driver's license and clean driving record, in order to drive company vehicles

Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies

  • Current certification in DOT, Cal OSHA 30hour, Hazard Waste Management is preferred
  • Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates competency in handling multiple priorities and use sound judgment
  • Strong leadership skills are required to ensure progress and compliance with EHS programs in areas where this role does not directly report. Cross functional teams are required to execute the programs and this role is key in facilitating that work across the organization
  • Well organized – able to track/follow-up on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously to ensure it is executed in a timely manner
  • Focuses on teamwork, collaboration and puts the success of the team above one's own interests
  • Able to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, where small teams share a broad variety of duties
  • Displays strong initiative and drive to accomplish goals and meet company objectives
  • Takes ownership and responsibility for current and past work products
  • Is committed to learning from mistakes and driven to improve and enhance performance of oneself, others, and the company

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in an office and manufacturing environment (Constant)
  • Able to climb ladders, stoop, kneel, twist, bend (Occasional)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (Occasional)
  • Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Frequent)

The salary range for this role is:

$71,704 - $101,640
