Job Description

Summary

The Chief Engineer, Software uses one's expertise and experience to lead in the development of flight-critical software. In this role, the Chief Software Engineer mentors, leads and manages a small team of dedicated engineers developing real-time, embedded micro-controller software and firmware for avionic systems.

Position Responsibilities

  • Leads and participates in software development in accordance with DO-178.
  • Leads and supports the development of documentation necessary for FAA certification.
  • Develops system level software architecture.
  • Creates high and low level (derived) requirements.
  • Designs, codes, simulates, integrates and validates software.
  • Leads, plans and participates in software design and code reviews.
  • Conducts release/sprint planning and backlog management.
  • Uses Atlassian toolset (Confluence and Jira) to manage software effort
  • As an expert in the field, uses professional concepts in developing resolution to critical issues and broad design matters
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

  • Master's Degree in Electrical or Computer-Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline is required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Minimum 15+ years' experience in real-time / embedded application software
  • Expert knowledge in the use of C/C++ in embedded systems
  • Experience in various software lifecycle methodologies
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills are required
  • Proficiency in MS office and other office productivity tools
  • Occasionally may be required to travel within the Continental U.S.

Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies

  • PhD Is preferred
  • GNC/auto pilot simulation and design experience is preferred
  • Experience with UAS, drones, or robotics is preferred
  • Familiarity with ARM processors is desired
  • Basic electronics knowledge and use of lab equipment is desired
  • Demonstrates strong leadership, listening, questioning, clarifying and summarizing skills to effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group settings
  • Capable of working on issues that impact design/selling success or address future concepts, products or technologies. Exercises wide latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical assignments
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Able to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, where small teams share a broad variety of duties
  • Displays strong initiative and drive to accomplish goals and meet company objectives
  • Takes ownership and responsibility for current and past work products
  • Is committed to learning from mistakes and driven to improve and enhance performance of oneself, others, and the company
  • Focuses on teamwork and puts the success of the team above one's own interests

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in an office and production environment (Constant)
  • Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Frequent)

The salary range for this role is:

$199,507 - $282,975
