Creative Intern

ABL Space Systems

ABL Space Systems

Design
El Segundo, CA, USA
Posted on Wednesday, April 24, 2024
ABL Space Systems was founded in 2017 by veterans of SpaceX and Morgan Stanley to develop low-cost launch vehicles for the small satellite industry. More importantly, we’re building a launch system we are truly proud of – no gimmicks or over-design, just reliable, rapidly deployable launches. We’re an ambitious team with big goals and, together, we’re determined to prove that reaching space can be simple, efficient, and routine.
When launch day arrives, we want you by our side
Our Creative Team is responsible for telling ABL’s story, both internally and externally, using a variety of mediums, including photography, videography, copywriting, and graphic design. We’re looking for an intern with a keen design sense who enjoys problem solving, working in a fast-paced environment, and thrives in positions with a high-degree of agency and autonomy. Interns at ABL are responsible for major projects within the company and are held accountable to other engineers and leadership.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled or recent graduate of a design discipline
  • Experience with design software: the Adobe Creative Cloud, Affinity Designer 2, Davinci Resolve
  • Experience with DSLR for both photo and video capture
  • Provide a design portfolio upon request

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • A strong sense of design
  • Strong writing skills
  • Some experience with motion graphics design and/or 3D modelling software
  • Familiarity with video and multimedia production
  • An interest in space, science fiction, and technology

WHAT WE LOOK FOR:

  • Thoughtfulness (we approach things intentionally from a blank slate, so the answer may be unconventional, and we need to be able to explain why we’re choosing a new path)
  • A resourceful problem-solver (we’ll be executing many workflows for the first time)
  • Organized (digitally and physically; we’ll make content for many different audiences)
  • An expert in at least one of the focus areas above (with a desire to gain more expertise!)
  • Down to work across projects and get your hands dirty… as a typical day might include pitching a story for a customer in the morning then painting a rocket in the afternoon

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENTS

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds with reasonable accommodations
  • Ability to communicate with individuals and groups in person, by phone and by video conference
  • Internship requires in-office work, and may include travel to test site and launch site environments.
ITAR Requirement
This position requires access to information protected under US export control laws, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations and/or the Export Administration Regulations. As such, US person status (including US citizens, U.S. permanent residents, individuals granted U.S. asylum status, or individuals admitted in U.S. refugee status) is a required qualification for this position.
Equal Opportunity Employer
We are an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, national origin, protected veteran status, disability, genetics, or citizenship status (when otherwise legally authorized to work and access export-controlled data) and will not be discriminated against on the basis of such characteristics or any other status protected by the laws or regulations in the locations where we operate. We encourage applicants of all ages.
