Job purpose:

To support the Zephyr Ground Network Manager to enable the design, build and maintenance of the Zephyr Ground Stations. A Zephyr Ground Network Engineer is a key role in the operation and maintenance of the Ground Stations that control the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Role and Responsibilities:
-
Responsible for designing, implementing and testing the network and telecoms infrastructure and systems of the Zephyr Ground Stations, including:
o Ethernet inc VLANs (Local, Wired)
o External Connectivity (WANs, etc)
o Firewalls
o VPN, IPSec
o All network and telecoms systems/equipment hosted on site
o Telecoms including VOIP telephony
- Determine, and review requirements across many areas including, functional, environmental, Human Machine Interface, Safety and Security.
- Oversee the development of ground control station and pilot interfaces.
- Integration of ground stations (hardware and software components) systems into the Zephyr system.
- Test ground networks to ensure compliance with the stated requirements.

Required skills:

- Experience with cybersecurity, IP/switching and protocols that connect Ground Stations to other user networks.
- Prior knowledge of the Juniper and Fortinet networking environments.
- Knowledge of the design, delivery and implementation of aircraft ground systems and their integration with other uncrewed air systems and sub systems.
- Knowledge and understanding of technologies relevant to stratospheric unmanned systems.
- Experience in the development of or maintenance of systems for the GCS for UAVs.
- Experience with SATCOM, LTE, and BVLOS/VLOS communication systems.
- Familiarity with software development methodologies and tools, such as Agile, Scrum, Git.
- Knowledge of standards and regulations related to aviation operations. Mainly RTCA DO-178, DO-254, DO-278.

Highly Desirable Skills:

- Visibility of a ground based UAS sub-system through a complete design cycle.
- Previous experience of system delivery in accordance with the regulatory and quality
requirements.
- Previous experience with Design Assurance Levels.
- Experience with:
o Juniper
o Fortinet
o Windows Server 2022
o VOIP Systems
