We are looking for the best
We are vertically integrating all aspects of energy and thermal controls at 42dot, enabling innovation in next generation electric vehicles. As a Staff Controls Engineer, you will design and implement control features that dynamically manage and distribute power and energy across all vehicle systems to maximize battery utilization throughout lifetime and minimize energy waste, and optimize thermal energy flows across cabin, battery, and powertrain, that will empower users to drive farther, charge faster, stay comfortable, and trust their vehicle in all environments
Responsibilities
-
Design and develop battery and energy control features to dynamically manage and distribute power across all vehicle systems to
maximize battery utilization while avoiding power violations and preserve range without compromising safety or comfort
ensure battery thermal conditions are always within optimal operating ranges at all time for safety, performance, charging speed, and durability
maintain thermal stability of drive units and power electronics to support performance, efficiency, and durability
optimize thermal energy flows across cabin, battery, and powertrain to minimize redundant energy use and maximize overall system efficiency
allow maximal fast charging speed by preparing and managing battery and cooling systems before and during charge events
Design and develop features that maximizes EV range and provide clear visibility to users to build confidence in their vehicles and make informed decisions that enhance range and battery health that includes accurately predicting remaining energy and drivable range under real-world conditions using adaptive, data-driven models
Contribute to the architecture and integration of control algorithms into production vehicle platforms
Collaborate with Product Management, Systems Engineering, and Functional Safety teams to define and refine performance and stability requirement for the controls
Support the development and use of simulation tools and integration test environments
Participate in code reviews and contribute to the overall quality and robustness of the control software stack
Work collaboratively across hardware, software, and validation teams to resolve issues and improve system performance
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field
Strong knowledge of thermal systems or battery systems.
5+ years of experience in thermal systems control, battery thermal management, battery management, or related fields
Deep understanding of control systems theory and real-world implementation in automotive environments
Strong knowledge and experience with software development practices (C/C++, Python, or MATLAB/Simulink) and real-time systems
Proven experience defining system or subsystem-level architectures and interfaces
Familiarity with automotive safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262) and diagnostic frameworks
Hands-on experience with hardware-in-the-loop or vehicle-level testing environments
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with safety-critical systems and architectures
Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering and cross-functional teams
Track record of mentoring or leading small technical teams
