Staff Engineer - Chassis Controls

Role Description
We are vertically integrating all aspects of vehicle motion systems and control at 42dot, enabling innovation in next generation electric vehicles. As a Staff Vehicle Controls Engineer, you will design and implement advanced control features, contribute to system integration efforts, and collaborate closely with cross functional teams to deliver a tightly integrated, high performance vehicle motion experience.
Responsibilities
Design and develop vehicle motion control features such as One Pedal Drive, Drive Modes, Traction Control, Torque Vectoring, and Vehicle Hold
Contribute to the architecture and integration of control algorithms into production vehicle platforms
Collaborate with Product Management, Systems Engineering, and Functional Safety teams to define and refine feature requirements
Implement supervisory safety checks in alignment with functional safety goals
Develop and execute test plans at the software, subsystem, and vehicle levels
Support the development and use of simulation tools and integration test environments
Participate in code reviews and contribute to the overall quality and robustness of the control software stack
Work collaboratively across hardware, software, and validation teams to resolve issues and improve system performance
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
10+ years of experience in vehicle controls, embedded systems, or motion control domains
Experience developing high performance chassis systems such as torque vectoring, adaptive damping, or stability control
Experience developing safety critical software stacks in compliance with automotive safety standards
Solid understanding of control systems and real world implementation in automotive applications
Strong knowledge and experience with software development (C/C++, Python, or MATLAB/Simulink) and real time embedded systems
Familiarity with safety development frameworks such as ISO 26262
Experience with integration and validation of software using HIL or vehicle level environments
Preferred
Experience with safety critical systems and architectures
Fundamental knowledge of communication protocols, including Ethernet, CAN, and PCIe
Exposure to homologation, compliance workflows, or production software delivery
Strong teamwork and communication skills in cross functional environments
